Job requirements:
An MSc or M.Tech and/or specialization training in Architecture/Urban Design/Surveying/Quantity Surveying/Landscape Design/Town and Regional Planning is a prerequisite.
At least eight (8) years’ relevant experience, of which three years must be in a laboratory environment or a planning technical environment/division.
Technical Registration or membership status and or eligibility to the planning professional body of the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN); or Technical/Technologist registration membership of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP); or Technical/Technologist registration membership of the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Duties:
Supervising junior lab staff members.
Supervising and managing practicals for Year 1 to Year 4 students.
Filing and compiling students’ practical portfolios.
Teaching studio-related practical modules.
Executing applied and technical knowledge of applicable land use planning statutes, regulations, policies, standards, processes and best practices.
Ensuring professional management of the laboratories and planning studios.
Maintaining inventories of equipment in the laboratories.
Ensuring proper upkeep of the drawing studios and laboratory spaces.
Ensuring compliance with security, health, and safety standards in the laboratories.
Ensuring that the highest standards of maintaining the laboratories are followed and met by students and lecturers as they conduct classes in line with the requirements of SACPLAN.
Keeping an up-to date departmental assets register, and ensuring that all the practical drawing studios are equipped, clean, and setup with enough materials for students to use.
