Job Details

Job requirements: 

• An MSc or M.Tech and/or specialization training in Architecture/Urban Design/Surveying/Quantity Surveying/Landscape Design/Town and Regional Planning is a prerequisite.
• At least eight (8) years’ relevant experience, of which three years must be in a laboratory environment or a planning technical environment/division.
•  Technical Registration or membership status and or eligibility to the planning professional body of the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN); or Technical/Technologist registration membership of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP); or Technical/Technologist registration membership of the Engineering Council of South Africa.

Duties: 

• Supervising junior lab staff members.
• Supervising and managing practicals for Year 1 to Year 4 students.
• Filing and compiling students’ practical portfolios.
• Teaching studio-related practical modules.
• Executing applied and technical knowledge of applicable land use planning statutes, regulations, policies, standards, processes and best practices.
• Ensuring professional management of the laboratories and planning studios.
• Maintaining inventories of equipment in the laboratories.
• Ensuring proper upkeep of the drawing studios and laboratory spaces.
• Ensuring compliance with security, health, and safety standards in the laboratories.
• Ensuring that the highest standards of maintaining the laboratories are followed and met by students and lecturers as they conduct classes in line with the requirements of SACPLAN.
• Keeping an up-to date departmental assets register, and ensuring that all the practical drawing studios are equipped, clean, and setup with enough materials for students to use.
